Rebekah took the opportunity to install solar electric systems and learn the solar trade in Mali in western Africa to install an off-grid system. That experience inspired her to start Fingerlakes Renewables Solar Energy — a woman-owned, woman-run, women and minority encouraging business. Twenty years later, the company is still going strong thanks to its dedication to integrity in sales, design, installation, warranty, and humor. She has led the company through inflation, subsidy onset and removal, technology wins and losses, and utility price increases. She has used what she’s learned over 20+ years as a business owner and solar installer to teach electric to small groups of women, install solar overseas for life-saving medical facilities, offer education and repair to hurricane-ravaged housing, and compulsively getting ducks.
